Corrosion research on austenitic stainless steels

SCK CEN, a leading research center of excellence in heavy liquid metal technology, is at the forefront of developing advanced lead fast small modular reactors (SMR-LFR). We are committed to intensive, high-quality research that pushes the boundaries of current knowledge and technology.

Description

We are seeking a motivated intern to support our ongoing corrosion research on austenitic stainless steels. This research is critical to understanding the interactions between coolants and structural materials in lead-cooled systems, a key requirement for deploying advanced SMR-LFR technology.

In this role, you will contribute to specimen preparation for tests and analyses and assist in analyzing corrosion depth. Your work will play a vital part in advancing the development of this cutting-edge technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting corrosion experiments under controlled conditions.
  • Prepare samples for post-corrosion analysis, including polishing and mounting.
  • Perform post-corrosion analysis to measure and assess corrosion depth.
  • Support the documentation and reporting of experimental results.
