Development of a Nuclear Serious Game
Introduction
The SCK CEN Academy aims to guarantee, now and in the future, competent employees in the Belgian (and international) broad nuclear sector, ranging from industry over healthcare to research and government institutions. An important first step in this competence building process is to inform and enthuse young people about STEM in general and nuclear science in particular. One of our pillars is therefore to organize and support outreach activities that illustrate the basic science of ionizing radiation and its technological applications to students, their teachers and the public. Contributing to this pillar, the goal of this project is to develop an easily accessible and low-threshold nuclear themed serious game. The interactive and didactic game should be suitable for classroom and leisure time use.
Objectives
The student will
- select, in consultation with SCK CEN, a nuclear theme.
- develop an interactive nuclear themed serious game that aligns with the current the educational objectives (onderwijsdoelen) and the nuclear landscape.
- design and realise the game taking into account game mechanics, player's experience and scientific accuracy.
- test the serious game with the relevant target audiences.
- finalise the game based on the feedback into a durable end product.
