Job description
At SCK CEN (www.sckcen.be), the Belgian nuclear research institute, we are constantly exploring. And have been since 1952. Driven by our passion for nuclear technology and empowered by our unique infrastructure, such as our hot cells where we carry out research into the effect of radiation on materials, we push the boundaries of what is possible. As such, we are continuously expanding our knowledge in various nuclear fields. In the hot lab at SCK CEN's Laboratories, we carry out a variety of analyses. The analyses are performed in radiochemical (e.g. ICP-MS and OES, Gamma and alpha spectrometry, WDXRF), microstructure (Scanning and Transmission electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis, gamma spectrometry, RX and specialist sample preparations) and mechanical research environments (measurement of materials both in air and under liquid metal environments, including using tensile and fracture tests). We are seeking a Technician to strengthen our research laboratory at the Institute of Nuclear Energy & Technology:
- you will support internal and external projects that together form a range of strategic projects that are being developed at SCK CEN with international partners.
- you will contribute to the development, design and maintenance of experimental installations.
- working on problems in the fields of electrics/electronics/mechanics to provide support during the development and maintenance of various experimental installations.
- you will perform analyses independently, meaning that you are willing to work in fume cupboards, glove boxes and/or hot cells. You will use technology-specific software to do this.
- you will follow quality systems such as logbooks, work instructions.
- you will perform optimisations, calibrations and maintenance tasks.
- you will work in accordance with safety regulations and use PPE such as gloves, safety shoes, full-face masks, as well as providing support during interventions.

- you are willing to work in a nuclear environment with the necessary personal protective equipment.
- you are a team player with a positive attitude.
- experience in chemical or nuclear environments, knowledge of PLC are desirable.
