Job description

At SCK CEN (www.sckcen.be), the Belgian nuclear research centre, we are constantly exploring. And have been since 1952. Driven by our passion for nuclear technology and empowered by our unique infrastructure, such as our hot cells where we carry out research into the effect of radiation on materials, we push the boundaries of what is possible. As such, we are continuously expanding our knowledge in various nuclear fields. In the hot lab at SCK CEN's Laboratories, we carry out a variety of analyses. The analyses are located in radiochemical (e.g. ICP-MS and OES, Gamma and alpha spectrometry, WDXRF), microstructure (Scanning and Transmission electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis, gamma spectrometry, RX and specialist sample preparations) and mechanical research environments (measurement of materials both in air and under liquid metal environments, including using tensile and fracture tests). We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to strengthen our research laboratory at the Institute of Nuclear Energy & Technology:

  • you will support internal and external projects that together form a range of strategic projects that are being developed at SCK CEN with international partners;
  • on an independent basis, you will perform analyses and prepare work instructions;
  • you will interpret the data along with technical team leader;
  • you will develop new methods and implement new investments;
  • you will contribute to the development and design of experimental installations;
  • you are willing to work in fume cupboards, glove boxes and/or hot cells.
