Mechanical and corrosion behavior of functional materials in heavy liquid metal alloys

For new generations of nuclear reactors heavy metal liquids such as lead or lead bismuth alloys are considered as promising heat transfer fluids. The compatibility of structural and functional materials with this environment plays a crucial role in the development of these new generation reactors. In this internship the student should conduct tensile tests and microstructural investigation on samples which have been exposed to heavy liquid metal. The gained results will help to better understand the interplay of liquid metal environment and structural materials.

Objective

In this internship the student will contribute with his work to a better understanding of corrosion mechanisms in heavy liquid metal environment. The conducted work will also support ongoing research to identify key parameters and possible mitigation pathways for liquid metal corrosion.
