Project engineer for RF amplifiers for accelerator applications

Headline

We are ready to build this accelerator! Are you?

Highlights

  • responsible for the high-power RF systems
  • cover all technical aspects of the contract follow-up, installation, commissioning and operation of the high-power RF-system for a challenging accelerator project
  • work on high-power solid-state amplifiers driving superconducting RF cavities in a challenging Continuous-Wave (CW) operation mode

Job description

MYRRHA will be the sub-critical, particle accelerator driven reactor to solve the nuclear waste issue. But there’s still a lot of work to be done, such as constructing MINERVA – the project’s first implementation phase that consists of a 100 MeV high power, superconducting particle accelerator and a proton target facility for the development of (new) medical radioisotopes.

The beam commissioning of this high-power proton accelerator facility is scheduled to start in 2029 with the injector. Once this process is running, bringing the superconducting LINAC section into operation will start, no later than 2031.

In this position, you will:

  • be responsible for the high-power RF amplifiers of the superconducting linear particle accelerator and the required test equipment
  • perform the technical contract follow up (review, acceptance, validation) of all high-power RF components together with colleagues, international collaboration partners and suppliers while considering all the requirements in terms of operational performance, mechanical integration and safety
  • interface with the colleagues responsible for the infrastructure and integration into the control system
  • manage the installation and commissioning of all high-power RF components
  • keep the technical documentation, including drawings and quality assurance records, up to date
  • provide support to the operation of the accelerator once the commissioning is finished
  • ensure that the systems comply with the extraordinarily high reliability requirements of this project

Job requirements

  • Master’s or PhD degree in electrical engineering, physics or equivalent
  • experience in high power RF engineering
  • experience with high-power solid-state amplifiers commissioning activities or accelerating cavities is an asset
  • ability to communicate in a multidisciplinary, international environment
  • good knowledge of English;
  • this position is located in Mol (Flanders) where the accelerator is under construction
