Scientific vistors IAEA
The scientific visit will focus on calibration and measurement capabilities, that have
potential to be implemented in the LMRI laboratory (Portugal). It will cover calibration methods typically used at
the SSDL (Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratrories), with focus on radionuclide metrology and calibrations in nuclear
medicine.
The following topics should be covered:
- General introduction to SSDL activities and services provided, including calibration and verification of measuring devices,
- Secondary standard radionuclide calibrators (RC),
- Reference and field instruments,
- Characteristics and limitations, performance of RC,
- Fundamentals of calibration in terms of activity for NM,
- Practical measurements with reference and with field radionuclide calibrators (RC),
- Commissioning and QC for RC, General overview on different calibration procedures in nuclear medicine,
- Technical procedures with specific focus on calibrations of dosimeters used in nuclear medicine (in collaboration with hospital),
- Impact of radionuclide and geometry
- Calibration procedures, uncertainty estimations, calibration certificates Introduction to calibration for neutron dosimeters
- Introduction to calibration procedures for surface contamination monitors
- Importance of intercomparisons and CMCs
